Paavo Nurmi marathon

Paavo Nurmi Festival will come to a deserving conclusion when thousands of runners take to the streets of downtown Turku in the Paavo Nurmi Marathon. The beautiful route highlights the best of Turku: the shores of Aurajoki River, the beautiful island of Ruissalo, the Paavo Nurmi statue designed by sculptor Wäinö Aaltonen, and the streets of the city centre.

Participants in the Paavo Nurmi Marathon can choose between the 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre, half marathon or full marathon routes – or take part in the Paavo Nurmi Triple, which includes the 10-km, half marathon and full marathon events! There is also a Paavo Nurmi Minimarathon for children!

The first Paavo Nurmi Marathon was held in 1992. Organisers had been considering the idea for some time, but the final spark came from the World Masters Athletics Championships held in Turku in 1991.

Paavo Nurmi Marathon is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2022. In honour of this, the Finnish marathon champions will also be decided in the open and masters categories at this year’s Paavo Nurmi Marathon.
